Confirm the mix before ordering
Ask the asphalt plant for the selected mix density, minimum load, and available delivery increments.

How the calculation works
We use 145 lb/ft³ planning density.
Formula: length × width × depth × 145 lb/ft³ ÷ 2,000
Worked example
A 20 × 10 ft area at 3 in deep, plus 10% waste, requires about 4.0 tons.
Measure the paved area
Measure finished length and width, then enter the compacted asphalt depth rather than the loose placement depth.
Frequently asked questions
Does asphalt depth mean compacted depth?
Yes. Use the final compacted thickness specified for the paved area.
Why can supplier tonnage differ?
Mix design, density, rounding, and actual site dimensions can change the ordered quantity.
